Saturn V boosted Apollo 8 onto a translunar trajectory and the first crewed lunar orbit insertion: ten 110-km orbits over 20 hours before trans-Earth injection. The first humans to leave Earth orbit, the first to see the lunar far side, the first to witness Earthrise from another world. Bill Anders' Earthrise photograph, taken 24 December 1968, became one of the most influential images in history.
