Luna 25

-69.550° 43.550° · South polar region (crashed)

Russia's first lunar mission in 47 years. Crashed during a pre-landing orbit maneuver.

Trajectory

Russia's first lunar mission since Luna 24 in 1976. Soyuz-2.1b launch, lunar transfer, then a pre-landing orbit-correction burn that ran 127 seconds instead of the planned 84 when the engine cutoff failed. Luna 25 spiraled out of control and impacted the lunar surface near Pontécoulant G crater on 19 August 2023, four days before Chandrayaan-3 landed nearby.
