SLS will inject Orion onto a hybrid free-return trajectory: outbound translunar coast, a single lunar flyby (no orbit insertion), and a natural Earth return without further propulsive maneuvers. First crewed flight beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 (1972), and the first humans to fly near the lunar far side.
