About
Founded 2003 as the merger of NASDA, ISAS, and NAL. JAXA's lunar work spans the SELENE/Kaguya orbiter (2007), the SLIM precision lander (2024, first lunar landing for Japan), and the upcoming LUPEX joint polar rover with ISRO.
JAXA also contributes substantially to Artemis, the Toyota-built crewed lunar rover (Lunar Cruiser) is slated for Artemis VII and later missions, and Japanese astronauts have flight assignments on Artemis crews.
