Founded 1993. CNSA executes the Chang'e program, the most active national lunar exploration effort of the modern era. Chang'e 3 was the first soft landing on the Moon in 37 years (2013), Chang'e 4 the first landing on the far side (2019), and Chang'e 5 the first sample return in 44 years (2020).
Chang'e 6 returned the first far-side samples in 2024. Chang'e 7 (polar lander + flying probe + relay + rover) and Chang'e 8 (ISRU and base construction tests) are slated for 2026 and 2028, paving the way to the International Lunar Research Station.
