About

Founded 1969 in Bengaluru. ISRO is one of the few national agencies to operate independently developed launchers, satellites, and lunar landers. The Chandrayaan program has delivered three lunar missions: Chandrayaan-1 (orbiter, 2008), Chandrayaan-2 (orbiter + crashed lander, 2019), and Chandrayaan-3 (successful lander + rover, 2023).

Chandrayaan-3 made India the fourth nation to soft-land on the Moon and the first to land near the south pole. Chandrayaan-4 is a dual-launch sample return in development for 2027, and LUPEX is a joint polar rover mission with JAXA.
